Margaret Thatchers Diamond Brooch Sells at Southerby’s

A 1937 Cartier Diamond Brooch worn on several occasions by Margaret Thatcher has sold at auction in Sotheby’s, London. The brooch was reportedly borrowed from a close friend as the brooch Thatcher was wearing at the time did not suit her outfit. The geometric design brooch, set with brilliant-cut and baguette diamonds and signed Cartier, was purchased by the friend from Sotheby’s in 1986. Cartier London states that the brooch was made as a single piece in 1937, and originally sold in 1939.

It is on record that the brooch was worn by Margaret Thatcher on several occasions, the day she offered her resignation to the Queen in 1990, and then the following year when she stood down as an MP and when she made her final speech outside number 10 Downing Street.
