Costume ring bought for £10 sells for almost double the expected price!

As a follow up to our previous post, the ring thought to be costume jewellery, bought for only £10 in the 1980 has now been sold at Sotheby’s Auction House. The cushion-shaped jewel was expected to sell for around £350,000 at auction, but ended up selling for almost double the expected price. Nick-named the “Tenner” diamond, the costume ring was purchased from a West London car boot sale.

Costume Diamond Ring is Real

The 26.27 carat diamond is believed to have been cut in the 19th century, other than that, it’s entire history, from where it was found, cut and how it arrived at the sale is unknown. The recent owner had assumed it was a fake diamond, just a costume jewel and had absolutely no idea of it’s true value.

It sold for $657,000. Wow.
